De-cluttering And Organizing Your Home Office Space

By:

There is no argument that an organized office is a much more productive place to work. Clutter is distracting and having to move piles or step over towers of books takes away from precious work time. Wondering where your office supplies have ended up and having to look for them also causes stress and delays in productivity.

So, what should you do to organize your home office?

You must go through each item in the room and decide if you will keep it, donate it or toss it in the garbage. Assign bins for each of these purposes and fill them up accordingly. You may even want to separate books into categories like fiction and non-fiction. This will save you time when placing them back into your office.

After this initial de-cluttering process you will need to do several other steps to obtain your desired end result: a productive workspace. Map out your work spaces. Remove all distractions. And then stick to keeping the space clean.

Map out your work spaces:

Who will use the home office in addition to you? Your children, your spouse, a co-worker? Each will need their own area with a table or desk, chair and storage possibilities. If there is only one computer for all participants to use, then consider putting it in a central location that will not encroach upon the workspace of the others in the room.

Remove distractions:

Distractions are the biggest reason why you and the others using the office are having such a difficult time focusing on the work at hand. Distractions can be anything from children's toys and superfluous items that belong in other rooms. Take those items out of the room to be dealt with at another time. And then actually, deal with them at a later time. Help your children to keep their toys in their proper places, so that they do not keep re-entering the office. If a toy enters the room, immediately redirect the child to putting it away. Be strict with your self in the area as well and you are on your way to utilizing the space to its best advantage.

Stick to keeping the space clean:

Yes, the organization process can be tedious. It's a loathsome job for many of us. That's why you should commit to keeping up what you started. Who wants to organize - again - in just a few months? And all it takes is putting things in their proper place as soon as you are finished with them. Remove trash promptly to avoid a greater accumulation and to prevent hygiene issues.
