Genetically Modified Foods Cause Sterility

According to a Russian research team (equivalent of the US National Association for Gene Security), genetically modified foods cause sterility, low birth weight, and infant mortality – in future generations. Now before everyone breathes a sigh of relief, please stop and think about these findings. Even if these ill effects do not bother us in the "here and now," we are talking about our descendants here. In fact, I will go further and say that we are talking about the future of our society. Sterility, low birth weight, and infant mortality are not what we should be passing on to future generations.

The Study
The Russian study used hamsters and followed them for three generations. Genetically modified soy – the same GM soy produced on over 90% of U.S. soy acreage - was at the center of the study. The research revolved around four groups – hamsters on a diet without soy, a second group fed non-GM soy, hamsters fed GM soy, and hamsters with a higher amount of GM soy in their diet than the third group.

The Results
The most startling statistic about the second generation of GM soy-fed hamsters - their infant mortality rate was five times higher than the other groups. And things got even worse in the third generation! Almost the entire third generation of GM soy eaters were sterile and there was another disturbing development - hair growing inside the animals’ mouths.

Disturbing Discoveries
I know these details are scary and unpleasant to hear but we need to educate ourselves about dangers in our food supply. No matter how gross the imagery or which disturbing statistics discovered in the process, we have to seek the truth. We deserve it and future generations are depending on us.

Additional Studies
Studies have also been conducted with GM corn-fed mice. The results showed fewer and smaller offspring, the longer the mice stayed on the GM diet. As well, there are reports about reproductive problems in cows, pigs, and other livestock on genetically modified feed.

Unknown Territory
The effect of GM foods on our present population is unknown territory. When it comes to the safety of our food, the 'unknown' is a scary prospect. Keep in mind that genetically modified foods are a new phenomenon. GM soy, corn, and cotton did not come on the scene until 1996. Modified canola appeared in the following year.
We have not even reached the 15-year mark since the introduction of GM foods. We cannot possibly know the long term effects of genetically modified foods on our health or the health of future generations. At least 800 genetically engineered food applications have been submitted to the USDA. Not one environmental impact statement is in the making.

GM Crops and Pesticides
GM food crops are saturated with pesticides such as glyphosate. The pesticides make their way into our bodies when we eat GM foods. In addition, Dr. Kremer, a USDA scientist, claims that glyphosate is killing the soil.

GM Foods
There are eight genetically modified food crops – soy, corn (derivative - high fructose corn syrup), cottonseed (used in vegetable cooking oils), canola (canola oil), sugar from sugar beets, Hawaiian papaya, varieties of zucchini, and Crookneck squash.

Stop the Production of GM Foods
Don't buy genetically modified foods. You will be taking a proactive approach to your health and the well-being of your family and future generations. As well, you will be part of a powerful message to producers. If there is no market for GM foods, production will come to a standstill.
You can make a difference! Europeans against GM foods led a successful campaign in 1999. They persuaded companies to stop using genetically modified ingredients. Within recent weeks, major corporations have announced (as a result of public pressure) that they will be taking HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) out of their products.
