If you open any magazine you will see that there are a lot of older men and women that are dating people who are 10, 20, and even 30 years younger than them! If you are attracted to someone who is younger than you, you really shouldn't be all that surprised and you should seriously consider giving it a shot as it may just work out.

The great thing about being an adult is that age doesn't matter nearly as much as it did when you were a child or even when you were in your late teens and early twenties. This means that you may meet people who are a lot younger than you and find that you have a lot in common. It's perfectly acceptable to follow your heart and go out on a date with the younger person and see if you hit it off.

You should be aware when you are dating someone who is younger that many people are attracted to older men and women because they are lacking an authority figure in their life, such as a mother or father. You need to be careful from the outset not to be a parental figure to the person, because this can just set a bad precedent going forward. Instead, make sure that you make it clear that you are their partner and not their parent through your actions and even your words, if necessary.

Be prepared to learn, especially if there is more than five to 10 years between you in age. When you have more distance between you than this, you will have had a lot of different experiences just because of the changes that occur over time. Be prepared to learn a lot about the way the world is perceived by those who were born and raised after you. You may just be surprised how much a few years can change everything.

Be yourself. A lot of people who are the older of the couple in a relationship feel like they have to push themselves to look younger, act younger, and just have more energy. Don't feel as though you have to be someone you are not, as this will get old. Instead, be honest about your limitations, your interests, etc.

It's better to be forthcoming with this information in the beginning so you can both determine for yourself if this is a relationship worth pursuing despite the age difference. If you're honest from the outset the relationship has a much better chance of surviving the age difference and the normal obstacles that all couples encounter.
