Dating For Parents Tips: The Best Advice On How To Introduce Your Partner To Your Kids

Being a single parent can be a challenging role, but it is a role which can be extremely rewarding. Your kids are blessings, who you should love and take good care of. However, this doesn't mean that you should forget to love and take care of yourself also. So if you want to go for online dating for parents, then go for it!

And if you've found someone great and find yourself seriously dating that other person, the next thing to tackle is how to introduce them to your kids.

Sometimes, we underestimate our kids' ability to handle the truth. But in the case of your new online dating relationship, honesty is not an option. It is a must.

Once you've decided that your new relationship with your online dating partner is indeed a serious, committed relationship and not just a casual fling then you would need to share a meaningful and honest talk with your children first. No, this talk shouldn't be about you and your partner, but this talk should be made as to re-assure them that whatever happens, your commitment and your time for your kids would not change. Answer whatever questions that they might throw out. Assure them that you would always love and care for them no matter who comes into the picture. Because of your status as a single parent, your kids would need to be assured more than anyone else. Kids have this fear that you would abandon them for your new relationship partner. So make sure that you re-affirm your commitment with THEM, before even introducing your new partner.

Dr. Peter Sheras, a clinical psychologist of the University of Virginia, emphasizes that although you should re-affirm commitment to them, you should not, however ask your kids for approval of the new relationship. Also, you should not give your children an ultimatum to accept your partner. You should, rather, initiate the conversation by ensuring them that they are important and will always be important to you, and then discuss what you each want in your future. You can ask the kids what they would like for your family. Ask them what kind of qualities they are looking for in a prospective someone to bring into the family. It is important that your kids feel that they are included in the new relationship that you are serious about.

Thus, before you introduce your new online dating for parents partner to your kids you must remember to: first, realize and remember that your children are afraid of being abandoned in lieu of the other, new relationship; second, assure them that your personal commitment to them will not change; and third, share your enthusiasm for the new person that you are dating, if they feel your excitement, then they'll feel excited too. Your kids want you to be happy too, remember that.
