Data Warehouse- A Storage Location Of Data

By:

Data warehouse is a set used to save data for future purpose of recording, analyzing and security. Basically a data warehouse is either a single computer or combination of computers or server attached together for creating a massive computer system. Data is a raw or unrefined form of information. There are various types of data such as operational data, salaries, sales, summaries of data including reports, copies of data, human resource data, inventory data, etc.

Types of data warehouses:
After the development in methodology and innovations in using data warehousing methods, data warehouses have altered from offline operational databases to include an online integrated data warehouse.

Offline operational data warehouses is a kind of data warehouse used to store data that is copied and pasted from real time data networks into an offline system where it can be used. It is generally the simplest and less practical kind of data warehouse.

Offline data warehouses are the data warehouses that are upgraded regularly such as on daily, weekly or monthly basis. Data is saved in an amalgamated form, where everyone can access it and perform reporting.

Real time data warehouses are the kind of data warehouse that is upgraded each second with the invasion of fresh data. For example, a real time data warehouse may integrate data from a point of sales system and is upgraded with each sale that is made.

Integrated data warehouses are the kind of data warehouses that can be used for other systems to access them for operational systems. Some integrated data warehouses are used by other data warehouses for enabling to access to process reports and search for the current data.

Merits and Demerits of Data warehouses:

The most significant cause of employing a warehouse is that recruits and users can access the data warehouse and use the data for reports, analysis and decision making. The data in a warehouse can be used to help locate trends, concentrate on dealings, and help consumers understand more about the surroundings that a business works in.

A data warehouse also improves the consistency of data and enables it to be monitored frequently to conclude how related it is. Because the majority of data warehouses are incorporated, users can drag data from various regions of their company, for example human resources, finance, IT, accounting, etc.

The demerits are, it is time consuming to create and to keep operating. The present system is incompatible with the data. Security is the main concern, the data is accessible over an open network and users will not want their competitor to view, hack or destroy their data.
