Data Loss In Linux While Converting Mbr To Gpt

By:

Intel Itanium processor based computers use EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) between operating system, hardware and firmware. EFI use GPT - GUID (globally unique identifier) Partition Table for partitioning hard drives.

GPT offers more flexible hard drive partitioning mechanisms as compared to MBR (Master Boot Record). Unlike MBR partitioned hard drives, data significant to platform operations, is stored in partitions in place of hidden or unpartitioned area.

GPT has more advanced features than MBR and several users like to convert from MBR to GPT, mostly Linux users use dual boot systems with Windows. They might convert due to following reasons:

MBR supports just four partition table records

The partitioning rules of MBR are poorly specified and complex

GPT disks could grow up to a very large size

The disk partition format of GPT is fully self-identifying and well defined

Every GPT disk partition has a distinctive partition content type and identification GUID, thus no coordination is required for avoiding partition identifier crash.

Although, it is very useful to convert MBR to GPT but its risky as well. If the conversion process gets interrupted due to system crash, power outage or any other reason, you might lose all your hard drive partitions and may face the need of Linux Recovery.

Linux Data Recovery is essential to retrieve your lost Linux hard drive partitions and data from them. It is possible with the help of Linux Recovery software. These software are capable of handling all logical data loss situations and perform smooth and complete Linux Data Recovery.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery software is the most commanding and highly productive Linux Recovery tool. Interactive user interface, read only conduct, powerful scanning procedures and live update are some major feature which make this Linux Data Recovery software world class. It supports Linux Recovery from Ext2, Ext3 and ReiserFS file system volumes.
