Putting your mutt in a costume can be a blast. Do not forget that unless your creature is responsive to the idea of donning a wardrobe, don't force them to wear one. They can be distressed, restrictive and even cause hassle in a pet that doesn't want to wear one. Keep in mind, there are a lot of people running around and lots of loud noises. You pets are going to be under enough anxiety already. If your pet looks nervous or annoyed in their new costume, either take it off at once, or take it off after you've taken a few images for family and friends to show them how adorable your pet looked.
Masks on your pet may sound like a marvelous idea...for you! Pets rely on their eyes to let them know what's happening around them. If you constrict their vision, they may freak out or get scared more easily, making them more apt to bite at a person. If you do decide to torture your poor pet with a mask, just make sure that you give them very big eye holes so that you don't constrain their vision.
Unless your animals are very well adapted and very well trained, leave them in the laundry room until the bulk of the people are gone. That way they won't bolt out the front door when you're giving out candies. Also, if you're having a celebration, you won't have to worry about anyone hurting or bothering your pets. Provide them some food and water, and check up on your pet systematically to make sure that they all right.
