Dallas Culture

While we focus on the culture of Dallas, the first thing that comes to mind to almost everyone who have been there is cuisine. Being the ninth largest city in the United States, Dallas is famous for its barbeque, authentic Tex-Mex and Mexican Cuisine. Some renowned Dallas cooking includes the Mansion on Turtle Creek, frozen margarita, El Fenix, and Mi Cocina etc. In comparison to the New York City, there are far more restaurants in Dallas. Throughout the survey, it has been found that people of Dallas eat out at least four times every week, and this happens to be the third highest eating rate in the country. As we are talking about the Dallas culture, Dallas arts obviously would come hand in hand.

The Arts District happens to be the hometown of American culture. Some popular points of attraction include the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art that has taken the culture to new heights. Other venues under construction are the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, and the Winspear Opera House.

During the 20's and 30's, Deep Ellum gained a lot of popularity for the jazz and blues in the south. Some great artists like Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and Huddie Leadbelly Ledbetter used to perform in clubs like The Palace and The Harlem. These are known as the original Deep Ellum clubs. Nowadays, Deep Ellum happens to be the home town of artists performing in the pubs, concert venues, and district bars. Public ways include tunnels, sidewalks, and sides of building. It seems to be the early 2000's when art and culture started flourishing with the opening of Southside on Lamar.

Today, visitors also enjoy two more extra points of attraction such as the Poor David's Pub and the Gilley's Dallas. Dallas does include a wide variety of local newspapers, radio and television stations, and magazines. The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex happens to be one of the largest markets of media in the United States. Founded in 1885 by A. H. Belo, The Morning News happens to be the most popular daily newspaper. The Dallas Times Herald newspaper gave a tough competition to the Morning News, and in the year 1991, it was acquired by the owner of the Morning News.

Dallas city has a great influence of the Protestant Christian, and the city has great respect for the Bible. You will be able to notice an ample collection of Baptist and Methodist churches throughout the city. Eastern and northern Dallas is populated mostly with the Jewish community, and along with that, the northwestern suburbs include Hindu culture areas whereas, the northern and northeastern suburbs belong to the Muslim community.
