Dali And Northern Holidays In Spain

By:

The northern part of Spain encompasses the Catalonia region which is a good place to book your HOLIDAY APARTMENTS IN SPAIN for an adventure into the world of art. This introduction into the world of surrealism is something most people don't experience in a lifetime. Girona is only a hundred kilometres from Barcelona but they might as well be worlds apart. This area of Spain is often referred to as the Dali Triangle because it is not only the birthplace but the home to this famous painter.

The ancient city of Girona was inhabited by many different civilizations over the centuries including the Romans, Jews and Moors all of which left traces of their existence behind in the form of architecture. This beautiful city is in the Catalonia area of Spain, as a result the common language spoken here is Catalonia which was not allowed during the Franco regimen. It really doesn't matter which language you speak as the appreciation of the area including Dali's work doesn't need any words to describe it only the pictures that exist in your mine will suffice.

One of the most interesting parts of Girona is the old section with its narrow cobblestone streets that resemble nothing more than small passageways. As you walk along these passageways stop and inspect the medieval arches and the numerous churches that line the streets. This picturesque section of town is home to some houses dating from the middle ages and it's a treat just to be able to see them.

Nearby is an area referred to as Dali's Triangle, it is just north of Girona. This area has several places that were an important part of this man's life. Here in Figueres is the museum built and designed by non-other that Dali himself. When you approach this museum you can't help but notice the large white eggs on the roof, loaves of bread made of ceramic located on the outside walls. There are a number of Dali's works on display here that exemplifies the eccentricity of this surrealist artist, Dali's final resting place is found here.

The next part of the triangle is the fishing village of Port Lligat which was Dali's home. Dali built several homes with his wife Gala but this one still retains some of its original decor and looks like the man himself just left.

Where ever you booked your HOLIDAY APARTMENTS IN SPAIN stop by the castle in Pubol. This place is amazing with a stuffed horse guarding the door and some stuffed swans inside this 11th century building. Even though Dali wasn't allowed in the castle for almost a decade in the 1970s, the golden throne in the castle was installed by Dali for his wife and still exists to this day. If you travel to this part of Spain be sure and put the Dali Triangle on your list of places to visit.
