Daily Rug Care

By:

Just like everything else, a little bit of daily cleaning and maintenance goes a long way in keeping rugs beautiful for a long time to come. Of course, how much cleaning and maintenance is required will depend upon the types of Rugs you have. Let's look at this in some detail.

Types of Rugs

Different types of rugs need different types of cleaning and maintenance. Wool Rugs are the easiest to clean. This is because they are stain, soil, dust and insect resistant. Shaggy rugs on the other hand are the most difficult, especially if you have sheep skin rugs. The material of the rug is an important factor to consider when it comes to cleaning. For instance, Large Rugs made from cotton are easy to clean whereas small round rugs made of silk need to be handled with care. Yet, it is not difficult to keep all kinds of rugs clean if you create the right kind of cleaning schedule.

Daily Care

The best way to clean any type of rug on a daily basis is with the help of a vacuum cleaner. Vacuuming will ensure that all the surface dirt and dust is removed instantly. However, it is important to ensure that you vacuum your rugs daily. If surface dirt is allowed to sit on the rug for too long, it may settle into the fibres and will be difficult to remove. If you have a very hardy rug made from a very sturdy material like jute, you can even use a hard brush to ensure that deep seated dirt can be brought up to the surface, ready to be vacuumed. In the case of softer materials, and especially in the case of traditional rugs, a soft brush may be used for the same purpose.

Deep Care

While brushing and vacuuming is all the cleaning that Rugs need on a regular basis, it is important to deep clean them periodically. This is particularly true of Kids Rugs, because they tend to get dirtier and deep care ensures that a clean and hygienic environment is made available in their rooms. This will take care of dirt that is embedded in the fibres and is abrasive or oily. One technique of deep cleaning is hot water extraction of deep seated dirt. But, if you have never tried it before, it is best that you call professional carpet cleaners to do it the first time.
