Daft Punk Synchronized With Disneys Tron Legacy

By:

Last year, Disney Studios opened the flood gates with the promotion of TRON: Legacy, directed by Joseph Kosinski, when they announced a 20 minute sneak peek of the movie at selected IMAX theaters across America. I checked on Disneys site within the first few hours of ticket release for the sneak peek and the free screenings were completely sold out.

Simultaneously, Disney released sound clips of TRON: Legacy soundtrack, composed and produced by the iconic and critically acclaimed Grammy Award-winning French techno duo Daft Punk. I enjoy Daft Punks renditions because it conceptually articulated TRON. The soundtrack was released by Walt Disney Records on December 7, 2010 and it quickly rose to number 10 on the Billboard charts and continued in the sequent weeks reaching its highest point at number 4.

Daft Punks orchestration of the soundtrack appears to be quite a creative process. The duo (Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter) assembled a symphony of one hundred world class musicians in London and recorded the orchestra at AIR Lyndhurst Studios, Britains premier scoring facility. Fans were ecstatic over the idea that the electronic music duo was producing the soundtrack for TRON: Legacy, which marked Daft Punks first film score. The soundtrack won "Best Original Score" from the Austin Film Critics Association.

At some stage in the promotion of Disneys second TRON movie, an announcement of Daft Punks 90 second piece became available for preview to kick off Disneys 10-week promotional campaign of releasing something new every Tuesday about TRON: Legacy on Facebook, officially called TRON Tuesdays. Daft Punk fans flocked to Facebook to hear the techno groups latest creation.

Disney released Daft Punks Derezzed as a continuance of TRON Tuesdays. In the release, fans could also see the music with the movie, watching as a hypnotic and transforming Michael Sheen looks ominous with his white hair as Castor, a vivacious and renowned program in The Grid who runs the End of Line Club at the top of a tower in the computer system where TRON takes place.

Daft Punk is well-known for their highly crafted live shows, in which visual components and special effects are built into their musical performance. The duo is also noted for a heavy accent on visual and story arrangement connected with their productions. Wearing ornate robot costumes in public and while performing is their signature trademark, which synchronized very well with the production design of TRON: Legacy.
