Cyprus Beaches Discover Some Hidden Gems This Summer

By:

There is a stunning array of 53 blue flag beaches in Cyprus. The most beautiful of these Cyprus beaches can be found in the South East of the Island. According to the Blue Flag Organisation, 6 can be found in the Larnaca district and 21 of them in the Famagusta district.

Where Are the Best Cyprus Beaches?

Again, I personally recommend the South East of the Island. Anywhere is beautiful around here, but one area that is very popular with young families and couples is Protaras. Protaras is a major resort in the Famagusta district and boasts to have the best sandy beaches. They're well known for their white-gold sand, secluded sea coves and crystal clear azure waters.

What Kind of Beach Can You Expect?

There is a plethora of beaches in Cyprus, so you wont have trouble finding one. You have your broad based beaches such as Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa and Fig Tree Beach in Protaras. Theyre generally heaving with holiday makers, jam packed with water sports and buzzing with activity. On the other end of the scale, you have the tranquility of Serena Bay in Pernera or Konnos Bay, near Cape Greco. Both are very picturesque and tucked away from the crowds.

Typically, Protaras and Ayia Napa have white-gold sand with calm waters. Theyre great spots for Diving. Where as the typical Larnaca Beach has darker sand or pebbles. The waters tend to be a little more turbulent, with shore break waves. This is perfect for Kite surfing.

Some Good Examples of These Beaches

Macronissos Beach

This is quality, blue flag beach that is formed from a cluster of 3 bays. The sand is wonderfully thick and soft. A tractor with a plough treats the sand at the end of the day. Its a very popular and busy beach with its own diving school, if you fancy some scuba. There are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas and a separate water sports area for the active sun worshippers. As its such a huge stretch of beach, there are life guards on duty. Theres a kiosk/ caf that provides snacks and refreshments.

Macronissos Beach is located just off the Nissi Avenue, in Ayia Napa.
