Cutting Edge: Learning To Cut Hair

By:

Those who have their eyes set at becoming a barber or hairstylist need not wait to get a degree in some beauty school before getting their chance to play with someone's long locks. It is possible for one to develop their skill in clipping and cropping hair at home by practicing how to cut hair on their own.

A pair of scissors is obviously the most important instrument in learning how to cut hair. Other materials needed for the task include of course a comb for grooming up the hair before and after cutting, and a big mirror, one which is mounted up on a wall if possible. One may also need a spray bottle filled with water to be used for the purpose of dampening moderately dry hair.

Before starting how to cut hair, here are a few tips to remember. One should cut hair in a place with proper lighting, and the mirror should be big enough in order to get a proper front view of the hair being cut. The scissors must be adequately sharp for easy cutting, but it should be handled with great care so as not to accidentally cause injury.

To begin, the person whose hair is to be cut is seated in front of the mirror. With the use of the comb, the person's hair is straightened out and tangled strands are loosened up. This is also done so that one would be able to determine how long or short the hair has to be cut. Water is then sprayed on the hair to dampen it. This last move is especially necessary for those with dry, curly hair as it is much easier to cut them this way.

The hair is then divided into horizontal segments, using a clip in order to separate each section. The hair closest to the base of the neck is cut first, removing the clip in that section in order to cut through it. This should not be done in a rush, but slowly and carefully, first cutting through the hair's ends until the satisfactory length is attained.

1/8 of an inch is the suggested size of each cut. The initial layer of hair that had been cut is used as reference for the next layers to be cut. The same process of cutting is done for every layer, continuing until the preferred length is reached. One must make sure that the hair is properly cut according to the person's specifications. The hair is again straightened out with a comb, and then styled further. If all looks fine, the job is done and one has succeeded in how to cut hair.

Knowing how to cut hair is very advantageous, particularly in saving a lot of time and money going to the barber shop, since one can easily cut the hair of their family and friends. Also, should one decide to cut hair professionally, they already have an edge over the rest since they have already gained the experience at home.
