Customer Updates For Courier Shipments

By:

There is nothing more frustrating when working with a courier company than having no idea where your package is or how it is doing on its way towards its destination. This is something that good delivery services try to combat in as many ways as they can think of. They look for ways to offer their customers constant updates on the status of their shipments, especially at particularly important junctures in the delivery process.

The primary types of updates that customers will receive are those that are sent through the courier status check system. All couriers now have some way for customers to proactively check the status of their own shipments. Usually this is through an online interface that can be accessed with some sort of a reference number. When you enter the reference number into the system, you will see any information that the courier has uploaded to the system regarding your shipment.

This is a good way to find out where your package is, and if any major updates have been issued by the courier company, such as whether or not there has been a delay on your shipment. In the event of serious delays, the courier will usually go further than just updating the online system though. If something has happened that is going to cause your package to be significantly late, the courier should contact you via email or telephone to let you know what is going on with your shipment.

When your package has been delivered successfully, you should also be contacted by the courier company with an update. Good courier companies now have a system in place that is known as a real-time proof of delivery, or POD. This means that as soon as your delivery is completed, the software that the courier uses should automatically shoot you an email to let you know that the shipment was successful.

Couriers will also contact you directly to let you know if something has happened to your shipment. In these extreme situations, you can pretty much expect a phone call. This is the type of contact that is reserved for situations where a package has become lost or damaged. Couriers do their very best to avoid these types of situations and they shouldn't crop up very often. However, it is good to know that if they do, you won't have to wait long to find out, as they will call you as soon as possible.
