Always Think First Impression

Bill Bartmann tip # 1 is every time a customer comes to your business, you should treat them like it is their first time and you are trying to set that perfect first impression. While you may know them well enough to call them by their name and ask about their family, you also need to remember that they deserve just as much respect and adoration as that new customer you are trying to land. As a matter of fact they likely deserve more since they are coming back time and time again and adding more to your bottom line.

Know Them

Bill Bartmann tip # 2 is get to know the people who are coming to you with their business. In addition to being a part of your paycheck, these are also people humans who have lives, thoughts, feelings and stories. Get to know your customers. The more you are able to build a relationship with them, the more they are going to want to come back to you with their business. At some point, you will become more and more like a friend then just a person to do business with and they will go out of their way to keep coming back.

Honesty

Bill Bartmann tip # 3 is honesty is vital when it comes to keeping your business successful. When you are asked questions or requests are made to you for things from your customers, make sure you really mean what you say and do what you promise. While you may have done things just right hundreds of times all you have to do is break a promise once or be a little less than honest, and you will mar that relationship with your customer for good. They will always be wondering if you are going to be dishonest again. If they no longer trust you to be straight with them, they may well keep their eyes open for another vendor who can offer the same services you do and go to them instead. Additionally, everyone talks about their bad experiences, so they will likely tell others what happened, causing potential customers to lose faith in you as well.

Listen And Answer

Bill Bartmann tip #4 is if your customers have questions, you need to make sure to listen to them. Open your ears and really take in their concerns and needs. Then find an answer or solution to their needs. Many times when customers ask questions about products and services it is because they really want to do business with you and be happy with the transaction, but are not clear, comfortable or completely happy with something. By listening and trying to find a solution you will resolidify the relationship.
