Custom Web Design - Not The Cheapest, But Definitely Worth It

By:

When it comes to custom web design, things tend to be a little more complicated than what most people think. If ease and simplicity is what you are looking for, than a template website generator may be the way to go. They are cheap (often times free) and give you the bare-bone basics for websites. The only problem with this is the websites look very amateurish, and are often times instantly dismissed by visitors. Your website is the storefront of your business online, and you need to treat it like one if you want to see any sort of online success.

Before you go to the guy at the local swap-meet who says they can do cheap web design, take the time and ask yourself if it's really worth it. There is an old saying, and it rings true for web design and online marketing, "You get what you pay for." Websites take time, knowledge, and expertise to build. Keep this in mind when you see what people are advertising their prices at. Nobody is going to spend two weeks on a site design and implementation and only charge you a hundred bucks. If they do, than it probably is not an optimized SEO website design, so you have very little chance of being picked up and registered in the various search engines like Google and Yahoo. A proper web design will be not only aesthetically pleasing, but will be properly coded and written for the search engines.

The search engines themselves are constantly changing. They release updates and alter the way their algorithms work, so your web people will need to keep themselves up to speed on these changes. This takes time, and reflects in the hourly rate. To give a bit of a comparison, the average retail employee makes anywhere between ten and fifteen dollars an hour. If someone is saying that they can build you a website for an hourly rate that breaks down to be around the same number (mind you, it takes a good two weeks to design and build a website - this stuff isn't done over night), than chances are what you'll receive isn't the highest of quality.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself that you do not necessarily need your website to have optimized coding and content or you do not really see the need for marketing services on your site. While these things are not necessary to have a website, they are necessary to have a successful one. This is especially true for e-commerce websites, because the whole purpose is to gain traffic that converts to sales. If people are not finding your website because you are not listed in Google or Yahoo, than you are not going to have any traffic or sales. And who wants a website that nobody visits?
