Custom Log Homes: Kits Can Allow For More Individuality

By:

Custom log homes are a great concept for anyone who dreams of having a log cabin of their very own, or for land owners who desire to invest in constructing rental properties for real estate business purposes. However, theres more than one way to go about it all you could build one of your own from the ground up with your own two hands, which of course would be the most expensive method of all. Or, you might have a log homes company construct it for you, building from their own set of plans and designs allowing for slight theme variations, and this can be less costly, however youd have to be happy with the limited plans that they provide, and though variations can be built in, costs will accrue with each change. Now, there are also log home kits to consider so what exactly is different about these? Lets examine this more closely

With building custom log homes from kits, just the sound of the word "kits" may give the impression of some factory pumping out cookie-cutter type designs where each and every log home is exactly the same. First off, let's get that idea out of our heads, because it simply isn't true. The fact is that the term "kits" refers to the fact that all of the logs are pre-cut and pre-shaped in a factory setting, so that those that need to be unbroken lengths are such, those that need to meet at corners are such, those that need to have breaks in their length for windows and window sills and thus need certain cutting shapes are such, and so on and so on.

In truth, as far as designs, there is a multitude to choose from when you build from a log home kit - and as pieces are interchangeable, you can mix different designs together to come up with something completely unique, and even add a design aspect of your own, should you have a creative idea. This is what custom log homes should be all about - freedom of design, yes?

Further, building custom log homes from kits have superb advantages - number one, being cost. Since all parts are pre-measured and pre-cut according to your specifications in a factory setting, everything is inexpensively made and packaged... all pieces are numbered in the order of how the structure is to be constructed, and this also equates to a phenomenally lower cost.

Why? Because what would have taken many months of labor and costs to pay out to builders and/or contractors, can now take but a small few, short weeks. Time is money as they say, and the longer it takes to build something, the more opportunities arise for delays - whether it's to create or order more parts that would otherwise be provided in a kit, or to make changes in design on the fly since nothing is pre-measured or pre-cut, or due to the obvious inevitability, bad weather and workers calling in sick. If you're interested in custom log homes, do yourself a huge favor and build one from a pre-made kit that you can design and put up within weeks, as opposed to the whole operation taking the better part of a year.
