Custom Lasik Vs. Traditional Lasik

By:

Progress in the LASIK corrective eye surgery market is growing fast. Traditional LASIK surgery has been the standard for almost the last 20 years. However, doctors and scientists have developed a unique procedure that surpasses traditional LASIK surgery.

The new technology is called custom LASIK. Custom LASIK is like traditional LASIK in many ways. It uses the same procedure as custom LASIK, but with much better computer aided technology.

Many candidates for LASIK surgery have found that they are unsuitable for traditional LASIK surgery. With the advent of custom LASIK surgery, many of these people who are not good candidates for traditional LASIK eye surgery are able to be qualified for custom LASIK.

Custom LASIK use computerized mapping for your individual situation. The computer takes a complete image of your eye and gives the doctor a precise map of your map. This uses what is called wavefront technology. With this technology, doctors are better able to give you a great result.

There are many risks associated with traditional LASIK eye surgery. There are still the same risks with custom LASIK surgery; however, there is documented evidence that there are lower incidents of side effects with custom LASIK eye surgery.

Along with the added benefits of this new technology you are much more likely to get a "perfect" result with fewer side effects. One side effect of traditional LASIK is what is called the halo effect. This is where when looking at a light at night, there appears to be a ring of diffused light around the light source. With custom LASIK this effect is much less likely.

Of course, with the new technology of custom LASIK eye surgery comes the added cost. It is much more expensive than traditional LASIK; however the result you get may be worth the additional cost. Over your lifetime the benefits of your investment in a more expensive procedure will more likely give you a better chance at complete success.
