Curing Colic Using Cranial Osteopathy

Research has shown that colic can be cured using Cranial Osteopathy as a treatment method.
It is commonly believed that because they are so young, babies have no structural stress or strain. The expectation for infants is that they be typically unbothered by anything but the most basic needs.  But in reality, babies have just been through one of the most stressful events of their lives.  The journey through the birth canal can actually be quite traumatic. The bones of the head are designed to flex and overlap which allow it to be moulded as it moves through the birth canal. In the days following delivery, the head gradually un-moulds, resulting in a more ‘normal’ appearing shape.  However, if the birth has been a difficult one, the un-moulding process may be left incomplete, which can cause difficulties for the newborn.  It is in these cases which the Cranial Osteopathy may be the most effective.
What Is Colic?
Colic is most often defined as excessive crying for more that 3 hours per day for a minimum of 3 days per week for 3 weeks or more in what appears to be a healthy baby.  Colic usually appears within the first few weeks; and it is the primary reason for early visits to the primary care practitioners. Colic has been attributed to stomach problems, temperament, and common stress; but there is no conclusive cause. Yet, 26% of infants have been diagnosed with colic.  In approximately 50% of those diagnosed, the problem resolves itself at around 3 months of age.
Finding Colic Relief
Living with an infant that is continuously crying and cannot be soothed can be very stressful, frustrating and challenging.  And for the first time parents it may quickly become overwhelming. An unhappy baby may be hungry, tired, wet, too hot, too cold, or even in pain. If nothing evident is causing the discomfort, it may help to bathe the baby, or to keep the baby moving in a rocking motion. Continuous noise from household appliances or even car rides may even provide some relief. Reducing the amount of gas in the baby’s stomach, either by diet or by prescribed medicine may also be effective.
Colic Cure – Cranial Osteopathy
With some infants, the un-moulding process after birth is aided by suckling, yawning and crying.  But if the process is left uncompleted, the baby may be left with uncomfortable pressure within the head and body. The pressure may be made worse when the child is laid down.  A skilled practitioner of Cranial Osteopathy has the ability to perform gentle manipulation, allowing the body to correct itself and return to a normal state of balance.  Cranial osteopathy, which has received the endorsement of NHS, it is a gentle, safe and effective treatment for babies. Treatments generally take about a half an hour. On average, two to six treatments are usually all that are needed to resolve the problem.  According to recent research on babies with colic; those infants that received cranial osteopathy therapy cried 40% less than those who did not receive the treatment.
