Cured In Place Pipe Lining (cipp) And Vertical Pipe Lining Solutions

By:

If you are currently residing in a condominium or apartment building that was constructed in the 1980's, then chances are you are about to experience some major problems with plumbing, most notably in the sewer stack. Back when those buildings were constructed, all the vertical pipes were made of metal, meaning that they were destined to become a big target for rust. The shelf life of the original metal pipes comes in at around 30 years, and with that time fast running out, things could get nasty, and quickly.

The rusting issues, combined with the toxic effluent of raw sewerage will slowly eat away at the metal, eventually lead to cracks and then leaks which can cause major damage to the walls and, worst of all, leave a foul smell throughout the entire building. The cracked and leaking vertical pipes will continue to break down in domino effect style, until eventually the entire complex is affected. With that in mind, it does no good to repair the pipes in one apartment and leave the rest; doing that will result in costly repairs to the entire building.

The quickest and most cost-effective way to remedy the problem, before it get out if control, is to install "cured-in-place pipe" lining (CIPP), which is normally done in 4 steps. Before the vertical pipe lining is installed, the existing pipes have to be completely cleaned of any existing debris. This can be done by using a high pressure water jet, but in doing so, more damage could be done to the already fragile pipes. A better option is to use specially designed steel brushed to sweep out the build-up.

Once cleaning is complete, a pipe video inspection camera is sent down the pipe to determine the length and see where all the connections are; this information is then used to accurately calculate the amount of lining to be used.

The fabric liner is then cut to spec, soaked with self -hardening resin, and is then pulled or air-shot into the pipe. There is then a waiting period of between three and four hours as the pipe liner is left to cure. Once that time has passed, a final video inspection is done, just to be sure that the installation was completed without any flaws.

The installation of vertical pipe lining is a job that takes perfect preparation and an exact attention to detail, so it is always best that the job is best placed in the hands of a professional pipelining company.
