Crocodile Stuffed Animals & Facts

By:

A crocodile stuffed animal or an alligator? Which do you buy? Is there a difference? Does it really matter if there's a difference? Of course it does!

Crocs and gators may look the same from the untrained eyes perspective, but they are in fact, different. Once you are familiar with the differences and get some practice at recognizing them, it's not too difficult to tell them apart. Crocodiles are grayish-green in color and like to live in coastal and salt-water habitats. Their snouts are narrow and triangular and they have a fourth tooth that is always exposed. Alligators, on the other hand, are dark in color. They can usually be found in fresh water and they have a snout that is broad and round. When an alligators mouth is closed, their fourth tooth remains hidden thanks to an upper jaw socket that the teeth fit into.

While you may not think the differences are of any consequence when you purchase a crocodile stuffed animal, the recipient of the plush toy might have something to say about it. After all, if the request you received was for a crocodile stuffed animal, that's what will certainly be expected. And make no mistake: the lucky new owner of the croc plush likely knows the differences [between gators and crocs] and may not be shy in saying so if they should receive the wrong one. Online stores have a really fantastic three foot long crocodile stuffed animal that would be a show piece of any plush toy collection. They also have some incredible plush alligators so make sure you know which one it is you're buying.

Crocodiles have been around for more than 200 million years with 13 species still living. One of them one of them the American crocodile can only be found in the southern tip of Florida in the United States. The saltwater crocodile is the largest of the croc species and measures more than 20 feet in length and can reach weights of up to 2,000 pounds. They can be found in northern Australia, and Southeast Asia. Fresh water crocodiles, on the other hand, can mostly only be found in Australia. While it may be conceivable to purchase a crocodile toy that can withstand the water, any crocodile stuffed animal you buy will not be conducive to getting wet.
