It is hard to exaggerate how big online role-playing game World of Warcraft is. Millions of players around the world making it one of the most played games ever. It is therefore not surprising that the whole thing becomes big business - it has been written several books, the magazines are published and it will even be a Hollywood movie based on Warcraft,
wow poewrleveling the world's mythology at once.
So that a company like Creative would catch on to this and release products with World of Warcraft design, feels completely natural. It's all about two hearty headsets for gaming. One is with a USB cord and the other wirelessly, but otherwise there is no difference to them.
Excellent comfort
We have tested the wireless version, and is really impressed. It is a great and awesome comfortable design with slim-fit earphones and soft padding. Not too much pressure on your ears, only just enough, so the sound does not leak. The idea is that you can sit and play for hours without getting uncomfortable.
The microphone unit is detachable and plugs in only when you need it. Perhaps it would have been smarter to have the retractable, so you do not keep track of the loose stuff. Battery said to last for eight hours, and we could really play music in the headphones a full working day without recharging. The battery is charged via a mini USB port. However, people are not with an external charger, but may use a USB port on your computer for charging. It can be a pain if you have a notebook in which there are few such already.
The transfer is handled by a separate radio link so plugged into the computer via USB 1.1 or better. Installation is simple, it is just plug in, turn on the handset and press the "Connect". After a few seconds, you are offline. Just remember to select the correct audio device in Control Panel. After installing stood our still on the old sound card.
Great "everyday" sounds
Despite the name and design, this is definitely not a handset just for WoW fanatics. It is a great headset for all types of games, and also for movies and music. The sound quality is quite high, detailed in both mid and high frequencies, and high maximum volume and good pressure in the base. The microphone is also nice class, and have some dampening of unwanted background noise. It is not hi-fi for the connoisseur, but definitely not bad for all of us.
The design is not very WoW-embossed. The clearest is the interchangeable panels on the headphones, showing different coats of arms from the game in vibrant Multi-color neon lighting. It is possible to tone down or turn off if you do not want to look like an amusement park. In addition, some small details like a printed World of Warcraft logo and tribal character (like what I like WoW players can not see is any specific link to the game) in relief in the plastic and the control buttons.
A control program (in WoW's design, but not limited to the game) are available for Windows and Mac OS, where you can set a lot of things. Sound levels, equalizer and appeal lies lighting effects are naturally.
Talk like a dwarf
You can save several different sound profiles, for different users or even for different game characters, which can be helpful. This is in fact a fun little feature that distorts his voice from microphone to sound like different creatures in the game. It works well like that, and is mostly about pulling up and down the pitch, but can definitely be fun to play with.
More useful is the audio effects under the heading THX. You can get simulated surround sound, increased pressure in the base (for good bio-esteem), improving the clarity of voices, subdued maximum volume,
wow poewrleveling and something called "Crystallizer". Really what it does is a bit unclear, but the surcharge will sound more real and present. At least useful of these is probably the surround effect, which is not quite agree. It becomes more watery than broadened sound.
If it were not for it a bit too high price, 1550 SEK in Creative's own shop, so we would not hesitate to recommend a purchase. Now the question is whether it is worth it, unless you are just that gamern who spend hours on end in the virtual world of Azeroth.
