Creative Ways To Do With Your Attic

Compared to other rooms in the house, attics tends to get less attention and most of the time they are just used as storage area for old and unused things so that there will be more rooms in the other parts of the house. Never did it came to us to use this space as additional room and it can be turned into something special besides than being a storage area.

Your attic should be accessible. This means that you should have quality stairs to climb to. If you worry too much about the space the stairs may consume, you can have folding stairs that you can keep in the ceiling if not in used. Then again, if you will be using your attic as entertainment area or playroom for the kids, it is best to have good stairs properly fixed and installed to make the climbing easier and safer.

The first thing you must consider when turning your attic to a room other than a storage area is the ventilation. Ventilation has two components namely: light and air. Since attics are located in the highest part of the house, you won't be having a problem in managing these things. For your attic windows, you can have dormers installed if the roof and the floor of the attic meet. However, if there is a distance between the roof and the floor, then you can install small windows. For better lighting, skylights are suggested.

One problem in decorating your attic is its uneven walls. This may be hard to manage especially if you want the room to be transformed into a clean and organized storage. To solve this, cover the walls using horizontal shelves and cabinets. In doing this, you must make sure that the storage isn't that wide. Placing little stools and chairs will also be good considering the distance between the floor and the ceiling - it may not give ample space to stand to.

Now that you were done with the ventilation and the uneven walls, next thing that you should do is to make sure that you make the room beautiful with the proper lighting. Create an illusion of space by painting the walls of the room with light colors such as white and off white. Place blinds on the windows and find a beautiful skylight shade.

If your plan for your attic is to make it a music room or an entertainment area, then you have to put all the necessary stuff in the attic. If you plan to use it as a place for you to relax and spend quiet moments, you can buy a nice comfortable recliner and place it in the attic. You can place a bath tub in your attic too. All you need to do is ask a professional to put drainage and water systems. You can also accessorize the room with scented oils, fumes and scented candles.

The information mentioned above are just few stuff you can do with your attic. Be creative in changing the room into more than just a storage and don't be scared to experiment.
