Floor Trim for your Dollhouse

If you are a true crafter you are constantly tweaking your creations. In my last dollhouse building adventure I came across something that I know helped out my interior look tremendously. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. The discovery is not entirely new, or my own, there are many places to get doll trim, but I found the cheapest is a very thin flat balsa wood. I applied this balsa wood to the floor of each of my walls to form a great outline along the bottom. My biggest discovery is when the trim hid most of the fine mistakes between the floor and the wall. It also prevented the wall paper to come unglued because I was covering the bottom edges with the trim. I realize that this little invention, though not my own, really made my flooring look flush and neat against the wall.

Fabrics and Cloth

Dollhouses contain an enormous potential for miniaturists and hobbyists alike. For instance the amount of detail that is available to you is mesmerizing. One example is fabrics within a dollhouse. Bedrooms are a fabulous place to start. Everything from curtains and pillows, to mattresses and blankets can be created and made to fit. In addition to the bedroom just think of the dinning room rug, curtains, and even napkins! From there we move to the bathroom where you can create your own shower curtains, toilet seat covers, and more. There is just an unending amount of personal style that you can put into your dollhouse.

Contrasting your Colors: Making things Pop

The idea of contrast is to great stark differences between colors, furniture, textures in order to draw attention to the action. Using contrast works well to move your eye to a certain location of the room, or in a predetermined pattern. For the best color contrast look at a color wheel and choose colors that are opposite one another. When dealing with color contrast remember that it is easy to over due it and come out cluttered. A good rule of thumb is if you are going to be using contrast to have one major contrasting item per room.

How Many? The reality of that question applied to Miniatures

One of the miniature furniture decisions that you will have to make is answering this question: Can I put too many pieces of doll furniture in one room?It really depends on the room that you are trying to furnish and how it looks once the furniture is installed. First of all you are not going to want to cram any room with furniture, it is wasteful and distasteful. Second, having everything in means that what was not there is gone. You must realize that space itself can have its own designing capabilities. Empty space when it is balanced relays a message of relaxation, cleanliness, and appeal. However, this doesn't mean that you should go to far the other way and place a single chair in an entire room. As there are many answers to one puzzle this is just another scenario where you need to play around with it until you have a knack for it.
