Creating Toddler Toys On A Budget

By:

In today's society we live in a culture that is saturated with toys for toddlers. Between the ages of 1 and 3 a child is surrounded by wonderment and their minds and bodies are constantly looking for stimulation to keep them engaged. With a market that is saturated with toys for toddlers, it is easy to become consumed and overwhelmed by slogans and campaigns. To avoid falling into the pitfalls of marketing and save money in the process, there are several items from home that can be used to create safe and fun toys for toddlers.

Dress-Up Clothes

Many toddlers enjoy dressing in their parents clothes and it is easy to create a personalized dress-up box just for them. Unused hats, ties, coats, shoes, dresses and anything else that might be fun for a child to wear as well as accessories like purses, wallets, or briefcases make excellent dress-up items. Place all of the items into a plastic tub or cardboard box. Dress-up encourages role playing and expands a child's imagination and having all of the clothes designated for them will make for easy access the next time they want to play.

Musical Toys

Some other toys for toddlers that are easily created are musical instruments. These can be made out of just about anything. Dry macaroni noodles between two paper plates glued together can create a tambourine. Round empty oatmeal boxes turn into drums for little hands and a comb wrapped in tissue paper can be used as a kazoo when blown upon.

Coloring Pages

While the glistening coloring books on store shelves look handy, they also come with a hefty price tag which is unreasonable considering how easy it is to download and print pages off from a home computer. Browsing the internet for coloring pages will turn up several options for coloring pages. Create a learning experience by printing educational pages or even letter and number sheets as well.

Building and Stacking Objects

Empty plastic containers, such as yogurt cups, sour cream containers, even baby food containers can make excellent stacking toys that your toddler can build and create with. Plastic allows them to drop and play rough with the objects and offers them the ability to explore their creativity as well as encouraging them to reach and stretch for objects.

While these are just a small sampling of what can be done at home, the possibilities are endless to what toys for toddlers can be found around the house without ever having to spend a dime.
