Creating Information Products - Just Why It Will Guarantee Your Internet Success

There are three Internet marketing business models to avoid and one that can ensure your success. Developing your own information products (from e-book downloads to podcasts, to online courses) means you can develop a close and long-lasting relationship with your buyers. They become your fans - so you can develop products that you know they will buy and you can build a network of affiliates who sell your products on commission.

If you rely on selling other people's products - the affiliate marketing model, it can be highly competitive in the bigger markets, you may end up losing money on advertising and you are often selling at low rates of commission, so you need high volumes of sales to make significant money. If you can build a significant amount of traffic - just imagine how much more profitable it would be if those visitors could buy your products?

Setting up websites to take paid online advertising is now highly competitive so you would need a very large number of sites - takes time to set up and run for what can often be a low-level of reward. If you can create a large number of visitors to your site, you will gain far more by selling your own information products rather than someone else's product.

Another potential business model is to do freelance work. There is a large market for freelance skills online. This is like having a job, trading your time for money, but it is very uncertain and you can end up working for low rates. Your competitors will be other freelancers working by the hour - often in places in the word with very low wages and living costs. Your time would be better spent investing in researching a niche and creating your own products than in creating them for other people.

Learning to develop and sell valuable products fast is a key skill - and it's not hard to learn. It's possible to develop one product and re-purpose it - for example turn an e-book download into a course. You can expand simple information products into bigger higher value products, as you get feedback from your buyers. Best of all, you can add in a continuity element where people pay you over a period of time, for example a 12-week course or a monthly membership.

My recommendation is to have a go at making information products - with more practice, you get much quicker at building information products and so you can produce more.

Don't get sidetracked into other Internet marketing business models. Developing and selling information products quickly is a valuable skill to learn - and it's easy to learn.
