Creating Custom Designs For Corporate Gifts

By: Gareth Parkin

Corporate gifts are often more expensive, more elegant, and more classical than your every-day promotional gifts. When giving corporate gifts, you must make sure that the designs you choose for these items are really top-notch, and work with the item to present the company image you desire.
Creating an attractive design for your corporate gifts is essential--even if you choose a great gift that is both useful and attractive, an ugly or inappropriate design might dissuade people from using the item. Because this entirely defeats the purpose of giving corporate gifts at all, it's very important to choose an attractive and appropriate design for every item you purchase. Corporate gifts are very different from promotional or advertising gifts, and are given for different reasons, and the design you choose should reflect this difference. Use these tips as a guide to creating a design that will enhance the overall look at feel of the corporate gifts you choose.
Color Scheme
The color scheme you choose for your design should do two things. First, it should harmonize with the color of the items you've chosen. This is not the time to be adding flashy, loud promotional messages and designs. Second, your design should, if possible, reflect any company color scheme you might have. This can be achieved either with the color of the items you choose, or the design you add if you've chosen a neutral toned black or white item.
The important point when choosing colors is that you should try to create a color scheme that is in keeping with your company image. For example, it might be best to avoid vibrant color displays if you want to reflect a serious corporate image.
Company Name and Logo
Promotional items often include an advertising slogan in addition to company name, logo and contact information. However, when creating a design for corporate gifts, your objective is not to remind the recipients of your gifts that you've just added a new product line or are offering purchase incentives. When creating a design for corporate gifts, it's usually better to go with the concept that less is more. Try to limit the amount of information you add to a design--at most, a corporate gift should perhaps include only your company name and logo. When giving corporate gifts for personal use, any design you add should be very discreetly placed, so that it is not overpoweringly noticeable.
Take your Time, and Get Some Design Advice
Good things take time, and if you are using corporate gifts to build your business, you'll definitely want to take some time in creating a design for them. It's always a good idea to get some advice from others about how your design will suit both the item and your company image. Other people may have some good ideas about color choice or logo placement that will make the final product just that little bit more effective. When you're buying corporate gifts you want to make every pound you spend count, so it's definitely a good idea to seek input from others.
