Creating A Beautiful Dining Rom With Contrasting Dining Furniture

By:

Deciding on the right dining table & matching dining furniture can be challenging. Before you start shopping for dining tables, chairs & accessories for your dining area you will need to make a decision on a few of the key aspects, in particular, what overall style your dining room or area will be.

To begin with you may want to think about whether you want your dining furniture all in matching finishes, or whether a contrast would suit you better. Many people prefer matching dining sets, but sometimes its better to use some imagination & think about mixing things up a little.

Combine different colours, styles & textures, so if your dining table is glass & chrome think about some fully upholstered chairs with chrome legs. Choosing upholstered dining chairs that are made in contemporary designs but in slightly traditional shapes like the Bonaldo Victor chair can work really well with contemporary dining tables & can provide an interesting contrast, not to mention additional comfort for you & your guests!

But if you do get a table & chairs in the same design you could maybe add another complementary, but different element into the room, maybe an antique tapestry, or a china cabinet to display your crustal glasses. Tie the two in together with a beautiful old gilt wall mirror or a sparkling crystal chandelier & you have the makings of a fabulous, yet personalised dining area.

Although it can be an excellent thing to do, mixing new with traditional furniture will not always be right for you. You will need to be realistic about the rest of your home, & the room the furniture is going into first. How old is your property? Do you have a high ceiling? What is the floor made of? Do you have original features in the room, like a ceiling rose or skirting boards? Do you have curtains or modern blinds, & are the window frames older or modern style?

If you live in a modern apartment or recently built property with no period features adding old to new might not look good, & you might be better to forgo the antiques altogether & buy all modern, or modern combined with fairly conservative pieces & some cosy touches like more traditional table lamps if you don't want a too modern dining space. The final touches in a dining room can be a key part, bringing different colours in together, as well as adding some contrast & interest to matching dining sets.

Finishing touches for your dining space can include wall mirrors, which can bring light & space to a room, art work (an interesting piece of art can provide a great talking point), vases of colourful fresh flowers, & some nice ambient lighting, perhaps a lovely floor lamp. If you are on a budget & haven't been able to spend loads on your table or chairs splurging on a really high quality accessory like a hand made Murano glass vase or an Italian wall mirror can really make a difference, for a lot less than a designer dining table!
