Each year managers have to develop a plan - setting goals and determining milestones for the year based on what their staff needs to accomplish for the company.

A great way to ensure your success as a manager in meeting these goals and milestones is to make sure your staff will be proactively supporting you by being directly involved in your plans.

Of course, you will need to ascertain which of your staff members can help in each area and what additional training each will need to ensure your success.

Knowing what skills and knowledge you need from each staff member in order for you to achieve success with your goals and milestones for the coming year helps you incorporate these into your employee's career development plan. This also makes it easy for you to justify money and time spent on employee training. Your employee will be better equipped to help you succeed and will be highly motivated to assist you.

By tying what you need with the training for the employee's Career Development Plan you are both winners.
