Ironically the greatest communication and knowledge tool in our time the Internet also is the best at shattering our concentration. In todays world there's so many distractions it's becoming tough to pay more than 5 seconds attention to anything. For anybody aiming to be more productive this can be a serious issue.

Next time you're at the office, try to work on a document solidly for ten minutes. Focus only on the document and do not do any of the following things:

Answer the phone

Look at your Facebook

Send an SMS

Reply to the outlook pop up

Send or receive any messages from any type of system

Respond to a walk up or talk to a colleague

This will be impossibly hard. Why?

Due to the fact there may literally be hundreds of distractions. It will take a lot of practice to master this.
