Create A Buzz With A Neighborhood Art Show

By:

For those of you that have made the move to one of those beautiful, older, neglected neighborhoods you might have seen some issues. There is a lot of fixing up going on in these areas. While your working on your house you need to think of some new ways of pumping up the camaraderie in the area. If you get a new neighborhood idea going you can make improvements within the interpersonal layer of the community. In other words you can bring people together.

One of the best ideas that I know of is starting a local art show. You could do it just for the people in the neighborhood or think bigger. Thinking bigger will eventually involve the city. It will raise money. It can pump up the bottom line for nearby businesses and could be the start of a new tradition in an old neighborhood. You will attract a ton of attention to the area with this idea and that is a great plan.

Before you start calling in artists you need to look at the laws and ordinances surrounding what you want to do. There are tons of funky city rules about things of this nature and you don't want to get a bad surprise later on in planning. You would do well to use your neighborhood park for this because you will need a pretty space for all the artists and vendors. You need to look into getting permission, insurance, if needed and other things that are alien to you.

To attract both artists and sponsors you need something slick and professional looking. Artists will not fork over an any fees if they don't have faith that you will attract a good size crowd. Sponsors need to see enough well presented information to know that you are very serious and that this thing will go on with or without them. There are people that can come up with something presentable for you. Graphic designers will make a website and brochure for you. Sponsors will be given credit with promotional merchandise that has their name along with your art show/neighborhood logo. You can get t-shirts, caps, sports bottles and all sorts of stuff to sell to people.

A neighborhood art show will bring so much to your community. It can put you on the map as a city event. If it is popular it will regularly bring money into the area which will attract some nice businesses and restaurants, or coffee shops. That is excellent to have those things close by and available. One little art show can start the ball rolling.
