Crate Training Is Easy And Essential With Young Puppies!

By:

Crate Training Puppies is a simple task. The steps involved with crate training are not difficult. Nonetheless, lately bunches of folks have had some problems with it. The main strategy involved in crate training is an easy concept -- train your puppy to enjoy their crate. I want to help you to solve these crate-training problems.

Make the puppies crate a good place he/she will want to be. Put a old t-shirt or towel with your scent in the crate so they will get used to your smell in the crate, with some chew toys to play with. Another good way to get them used to going into the crate is to take small treats and throw them in the crate for them. After a few days of doing this they will be diving into the crate for the treat, again reinforcing the crate as a good place. Do not leave food or water in the crate however I feed my puppies in the crate as well - give them their food in a small bowl, and give them time to eat it in the crate, immediately when they are finished, you can pick them up and physically take them outside to go potty... If you feed them in the kitchen on the floor - they may eat a small bit then get side tracked and wander away - giving them the opportunity to have an accident in the house. If you feed them in the crate and immediately take them outside when they are finished, they are not given the opportunity to have an accident.

Buying a crate that is too large for your puppy. This is the most common and easily fixed problem. Most people will buy a big crate either because of the breed growth potential or trying to provide space for the do to "move around". This usually only gives your puppy space to have an accident in the crate and then enough room to get out of or away from the mess/accident. Get a small size crate from the start and this problem will be eliminated. To make the area in the crate smaller you can put up dividers that leave just enough room to stand up, lie down, and turn around.

Never use the crate as punishment. Your dog will not like the crate if you use it to punish him or her. You want to have your puppy wanting to be in the crate and feeling comfortable inside with the door open or closed. This will not happen if you punish your pup by crate time out. And the hardest and most important lesson in crate training is to actually use the crate. Thyourfirst few weeks with a new puppy in my house - this puppy spends a lot of time in the crate getting used to it. If they are crying and raising cain to get out and you know they do not need to go outside - tell them NO, QUIET. This is not acceptable. Just give it time and your puppy will get used to the crate as a good, happy, safe place to be. Use use the crate and let your puppy spend a lot of time in it during the initial crate training period.

These few small hints will help with the crate training and a crate-trained pup is a happy and safe one.
