Cpr A Real Lifesaver

By:

Saving a life is not just a doctor or an ambulance officers responsibility. The responsibility for other lives lies with all of us and by gaining a few CPR skills through a course, it could help to save a life. At some stage in life accidents can happen and being prepared through doing a CPR course is a good thing. CPR is a useful skill to have, especially if you own a pool and have small children. Children love water and will try to gain access to the pool. Making sure that they cant get into the pool is a step towards a safer household, taking it further and getting a CPR certificate is another positive step.

As a pool owner, it is important for pool inspections to be carried out to ensure that your pool complies with the new pool safety regulations that came into effect on the 1st of December, 2010 with the aim to lower the rate of accidental drowning in children. Along with making sure your pool and fencing is in compliance, enrolling in a CPR or first aid course is a great thing to do. Imagine how it would feel to have the ability to save someone's life, whether they are the victim of drowning or an accident or cardiac arrest. Being blessed with the chance to use your knowledge and skills to save a person's life is such a great experience and opportunity.

So what is involved in cardiopulmonary resuscitation? Cardiopulmonary resuscitation involves chest compressions at a rate of at least 100 per minute. This creates artificial circulation by manually pumping the blood through the heart. By also breathing into his or her mouth or using a device that pushes air into their lungs, otherwise termed as artificial respiration, this method is also a great help for someone who has stopped breathing. Doing chest compressions is advisable for those who have not been trained in CPR.

The main purpose of CPR is to keep oxygenated blood partially flowing to the brain and heart as it may delay tissue death and extend the window of opportunity to get the heart started through electric shock treatment, better know as defibrillation which is needed to restore a viable pulse. Keeping the blood flowing even partially aids in keeping the victim from suffering brain damage provided that CPR was commenced quickly.

So for the sake of your family, if you own a pool then it is important to take a course in CPR as well as making sure there is a CPR sign in the pool area where it can be seen. As well as making sure your pool is in compliance and obtaining a pool safety certificate, you can register your pool with the Pool Safety Register. All of things go a long way towards keeping your loved ones safe.
