Could There Really Be A Magic Fat Loss Pill?!

By:

We call it the ‘obesity crisis’ and my goodness has it arrived!
Nearly 1 in 4 adults in the UK and 1 in 6 children are now classed as obese, a figure that has doubled in the past 10 years! Obesity is fast growing out of control.
News articles this week are claiming that there is a ‘magic pill’ after all, that can help people lose weight effectively. But the question is, at what price?
47 million pounds is now being spent annually by the NHS to provide overweight patients with obesity drugs! The two most popular prescriptions seem to be for Sibutramine and Orlistat.
Sibutramine is designed to alter your brain’s response to food, affecting chemical messages which control your feelings for food.
Orlistat, on the other hand, helps prevent a certain amount of fat absorption by the body from food, helping you keep your fat intake lower. Taking this prescription pill can reduce your fat intake by 30%.
To me this is just a ridiculously expensive plaster to patch up a deep wound that won’t stop bleeding. Medical practitioners just don’t have the time needed to advise people how to eat and exercise effectively, and more often than not it’s far simpler and more time-effective to doll out prescription notes than it is to educate people accordingly.
And that is precisely where the problem lies.
What should be used as a last resort now seems to be the first port of call in the fight against obesity.
Once a patient on prescription drops down to a healthier weight, they are no longer eligible for the drugs prescribed. Without the drugs to rely on and without proper guidance or education on how to eat and exercise healthily, a high percentage of these patients simply regain the weight that they have lost – at taxpayers’ expense!
Without a better understanding of healthy eating and regular exercise we are simply throwing money at a problem caused by poor food choices.
And guess what? The only people benefiting from all this are the food companies – the very people who should be taking responsibility for our nations eating habits!
Face it, the only way you will lose weight and keep it off is through regular exercise and sensible eating. Until people make themselves accountable for their lifestyles, we will grow ever fatter as a nation...
