Cougar Conventions

There was a time when the word cougar brought to mind a mountain lion stalking its prey in the wilderness. Today, cougar can take on a slightly different meaning. Cougars are older women who prefer to spend their time with young men. They actively pursue men half their age by dressing provocatively and frequenting places where younger people like to spend their time. Cougars have exploded in the pop culture scene with several movies and television shows featuring their exploits. Being a cougar is now a completely acceptable pursuit. In fact, several cougar conventions have sprung up around the country, attracting both young men and the women who seek them.

Cougar conventions are very similar to conventions for computers or comic books. They feature both people who enjoy the art of pursuing young men and those who enjoy the company of a cougar. One of the premier events of any cougar convention is the keynote speaker. Because cougar conventions are relatively new phenomena, many keynote speakers have focused on explaining what a cougar is and they allure that they hold over young men. Previous keynote speakers have included romance experts, authors and sociologists.

One of the biggest draws of a cougar convention is the Miss Cougar contest. Miss Cougar contests are similar to Miss America or Miss Universe pageant. They feature a number of cougars competing in various categories to be crowned the fairest cougar of them all. To be eligible to compete in Miss Cougar contests, a woman must be at least 35 years old and single. Young men usually serve as the judges for Miss Cougar contests.

For example, in the California cougar contest, men gave gold coins to the woman they thought was the hottest cougar. The winners of cougar contests are awarded all expense paid vacations or other extravagant prizes. They might even land a spot on a cougar cruise. Cougar cruises feature cougars and young men from around the globe socializing on the open ocean.

No cougar convention is complete without entertainment. Most conventions contain a dance party held at a local nightclub. Admission to the party is generally included with the price of admission. The dance party at a cougar convention gives cougars the chance to socialize with one another, as well as the opportunity to mingle with eligible bachelors. Cougar conventions have taken place in locations like Toronto, Monterey, Sydney, and Scottsdale. Expect more cougar conventions to pop up as the sensation continues to sweep the globe.
