Cotton Polo Shirts For Everyday Wear

Ever since the 19th century the cotton polo shirts have been seen around the world as a comfortable and affordable item of clothing, which is also quite appropriate for most any public type of gathering. Not quite formal yet not just a "T-shirt" the polo has a collar and usually three or four buttons that can be either buttoned up or have one or two buttons left open. They come in a wide assortment of colours, patterns, and materials although the simple cotton type is by far the most popular of all.

They are generally made from a knitted cloth instead of being woven and can also be found in synthetic fibres, polyester, silk, wool or combinations of those materials. A breast pocket or even two can often be found. Collar is soft and flexible, allowing it to be flattened down or worn somewhat raised.

Many polo shirts are seen with a longer back or tail than is found on the front half of the shirt. This is often referred to as the "tennis tail" because that added length at the back helped keep the shirt from pulling out from the pants when actively engaging in sports such as tennis or rugby. It is often this longer shirt back that denotes the style of shirt as being sports type apparel. They may be called tennis shirts, golf shirts, polo shirts, or lacrosse shirts and derived from the original long sleeved polo shirt style developed for that sport back in the 1920's.

One thing that brings sports enthusiasts together is the fact they can be comfortable and yet in style with basic clothing that holds up to wear and tear that goes with actively engaging in the pastime of sports. Cotton polo shirts, seen in a wide assortment of colours, both solid and striped patterns, look and fit quite well, particularly when worn by an athletically built person. Stripes can be horizontal or vertical, and a wide assortment of stripe colour combination can make them quite unique from one another. Some brands choose to place their brand image over the left breast (pocket or no pocket) as a subtle form of advertisement.

Whatever the sport cotton polo style shirts are simply more comfortable. Whether the activity of choice is polo, tennis, golf, rugby, or lacrosse rugged and durable cotton polo shirts will always be the preferred style of shirt for most activities.
