When planning corporate team building events there are a number of key points to take into consideration. You need to determine your objective for the corporate event; detail your corporate planning requirements and establish how to follow up to determine the success of your objective.

Objectives
With your corporate team building event, it is important to be clear about the objectives. These objectives should tie in to corporate goals. The type of corporate event will be strongly influenced by the outcome you are trying to achieve.

Corporate team building objectives are often to reward staff for a successful year; or to improve staff communications or to improve staff cross organisational relationships. So if your objective is to reward and therefore motivate and build on the existing success, you should consider rewarding staff with a morale-boosting time away from the office. If you are trying to improve communication then a different approach is required.
If rewarding staff is your objective than fun activities with plenty of variety is the way to go. Hosting the corporate event in a conference centre, hotel or resort will give you the opportunity to treat your staff.

A corporate event to improve communication should involve venues where you are able to give presentations and create group activities that focus on working together to achieve goals. The focus of these activities should focus on the achievement of the group not the individual.

Planning
Once you have defined your goals, and decided on a general approach, your corporate event needs planning and coordination to facilitate the transport, accommodation, activities and the meal requirements.

Follow up
A major problem with corporate team building events is that they can achieve a great deal on the day, but as soon as people go back to the workplace, things quickly return to the way they were.

To deter this from happening there are a number of things you can implement. You can ensure that the appreciation shown to staff is maintained throughout the year, with reward and recognition schemes, social events and celebrations for key achievements as they happen.
