Copywriting - Why Writing Excellence Is Important In Sales

By:

Copywriting is the use of words-- also called marketing copy-- to communicate a sales message to sell a product or service. The aim of such marketing or promotional copy is to induce the reader, viewer or listener to take action on the service or item being offered.

Because English is the most widely used language over the internet, writing excellence will be equated to English writing superiority in this discussion.

In the context of web copywriting and sales, the use of words for copywriting is the vehicle with which the agenda of advocating an entity- a person or business, or concept- an opinion or idea is effected. Hence, without a superior command of English, a copywriter will be unable to authoritatively get a sales message across.

While it can be said that not all marketers have an excellent command of the English language, an excellent writer will likely produce superior sales copy which will fare better in the online market. And subsequently generate more sales. Poor writing, when used in sales will consequently mean copywriting which lacks spirit, is difficult to comprehend and might even be superfluous in content.

Writing excellence is important in sales because it equates to effective communication of the sales message. And ultimately, success in effortlessly convincing the target market.

Writing Excellence Qualities

The following are qualities which all excellent sales copies must possess and are essences which every good writer can proficiently convey. Each quality is derived from the AIDA (A = Attention, I = Interest, D = Desire, A = Action) Formula for sales writing.

Riveting - to capture the customer's Attention. Riveting is connotative of attachment and means focused attention-- to study the copy closely. Writing excellence demands such effective and striking language. From the onset, an emotional tone is effected upon the audience as a prelude to the buying experience.

Picturesque - to develop the customer's Interest. Language that can conjure images to effectively beguile the audience is a necessity. Charming, delightful, exquisite, beguiling, and fascinating words are desirable and used as a means of conveying in the reader's eyes how they will feel as they take pleasure in the benefits of the product or service.

Convincing - to intensify the customer's Desire. Because emotion is what makes the reader buy, justifications to buy must be invoked in the reader's mind. Effective choice of words-- usually capitalizing on emotional (right-brain) words and phrases are used. Excellent writers know that they must avoid rational (left-brain) vocabulary which are counter-productive when used in a copy.

Persuasive - to induce the customer into Action. This final quality demands impressive and compelling language; enough to bring an emotional response towards bringing out one credit card to succumb to the sales copy's Call to Action.
