Cookware Tips To Make Your Mouth Water

By: Dominic Donaldson

There is nothing nicer than throwing a dinner party to impress family and friends. Communal dining is a social tradition that is slowing dying out as we all work longer hours in places away from our home, and as such, cookware increasingly consists of a sandwich toaster and microwave. To inspire people to get back into quality cooking, here are some top tips on cookware that will get your mouth watering.

To love cooking, you have to love your cookware, and once you have invested in good quality pots, pans and pastry brushes, you won't be able to resist getting in the kitchen and creating delicious meals. The type of cookware you invest in should reflect your culinary interests; it is no good buying cast iron casserole cookware if you prefer to whip up a stir fry.

There are of course some staple items that can be used for many different cuisines, such as a frying pan, sauce pan and stock pot. As far as cookware goes, these are the bare essentials. With a frying pan it is possible to make pancakes, omelettes, fried eggs, mushrooms and onions. It is an essential tool for creating bases for sauces, and can be an adequate stand-in for a small stir fry.

The humble sauce pan is a scout's favourite piece of equipment next to the obligatory Swiss army knife. A sauce pan can sort out making sauces, of course, boiling vegetables, poaching eggs and heating up just about anything that comes out of a tin. This is beaten only by a stock pot which can perform all of these tasks on a grander scale, and be used in an oven for casseroles.

If your tastes are a little more refined, you might want to invest in more specific items of cookware, such as a bamboo steamer and cast iron wok for creating oriental dishes to rival a restaurant menu. If you like slow cooked dishes, a tagine is a cookware investment worth every penny. The unique shape cooks meat, fish and vegetable dishes slowly without the need to interfere, resulting in dishes that melt in your mouth without looking like mush beforehand.

Quality cookware will last for many years, and if you ask any budding chef, over the course of those years will become your best friend; and as you learn to create delicious dinner parties, you will become many other people's best friend too!
