Cookware Can Be A Health Asset Or Liability

By:

With the cost of living increasing, more Americans are tightening their budgets. Although some people most people never realize how much of a role cookware plays on their diet. People often judge the quality of food primarily by the richness and flavor. People have taken into consideration the taste more than health and nutritional value. However, due to the recent concerns about obesity and health, more and more people have begun to consider their diets and are preparing more meals at home instead of eating out. They seek meals that can be prepared quickly and with minimal cookware and kitchenware to clean afterwards.

Although many seek to prepare a quick meal, food quality is also still in consideration. With these quick meals, that people intend to prepare, quality meats and vegetables are often sacrificed. These quick meals often contain large amounts of processed ingredients, which will also affect taste. The processed ingredients create an artificial taste, but there are many flavors which are impeccable. Sacrificing organic spices, herbs, and other ingredients will eliminate the subtlety of many dishes. Therefore, the proper cookware is needed to create a quick, delicious meal, so that the necessary ingredients can be applied. Without these cooking tools and ingredients the fine details of a dish will be spared.

Many people enjoy cooking healthy meals at home. They simply do not enjoy the time required for preparation and cookware clean up. The challenge for most is balancing work and home responsibilities with taking the time to prepare healthy home cooked meals. Time is everything in our society and people want things fast.

Although the food selection is a major dietary consideration, the method of preparation affects the time required to cook. Microwaves are fast, but limit the cooks ability to create flavor and the desired food consistency. Conventional stove and oven cooked meals take more time and maximize flavor, but often require several pieces of cookware be used and cookware clean afterwards. When surveyed, many cooks listed not wanting to go through the food preparation and cleanup processes as a major reason for eating out or buying less healthy packaged foods.

Most cooks agreed that conventional stoves were the preferred method, but not always the most convenient method. There are shortcuts to making meals on a conventional stove using modern cookware and kitchenware. Some recent cookwares have nonstick surfaces that cook foods evenly, without using grease to cook the food evenly. The cookware manufacturers believed that a non-stick surface would address consumers dishwashing concerns and allow cooks to prepare meals quickly and make healthy meals. Nevertheless, there are recent concerns about several coated non-stick cookware surfaces, especially Teflon. The coated non-stick cookware surfaces often scratch, peel and enter the food being prepared. Some scientists believe that the surface residue may be a leading cause for cancer.

Now, consumers are more conscious of the cookware they use and are viewing the investment in better crafted cookware as more of a health decision than a luxury. Several cookware manufacturers have come up with some very impressive cookware technologies to prevent sticking, cook food evenly and decrease cooking time. We looked at several products. We looked at Chef Emerils cookware line. We tested Rachel Rays signature kitchenware. Cuisinart and KitchenAid were pretty good low-end products, but we were most impressed with a small cookware manufacturer out of Canada, Cuisine Sant International.

In contrast to other products reviewed, Cuisine Sant products utilize a cooking technology that disburses heat evenly across the entire surface, so the food cooks evenly all of the time. This was impressive. Cuisine Sant International cookware also utilizes their unique ChromoTanium Stainless Steel no-stick surface that made cooking several dishes. The cookware surface was also a breeze clean up afterwards. Although we were very impressed with both the Cuisinart and T-Fal cookware, we all agreed that the Cuisine Sant International cookware products were our favorites.
Eating good quality food is the objective, but there is no sense in taking delicious healthy food and loading it with grease, fat and sodium during preparation.. Good quality cookware allows you to cook and maintain nutritional value. Inexpensive cookware may contain contaminants. Check your cookware regularly. Realize that investing slightly more in better cookware may cost you far less over time.
