Controlling Weight With A Lifestyle Journal

Controlling Weight With A Lifestyle Journal

By:

65% of Americans are overweight or morbidly obese. This epidemic puts a great strain on the costs spent to treat obesity, cancer, heart disease and diabetes. There are methods that can help regulate weight or prevent weight gain from ever developing.

Unfortunately, nothing comes easy. If you want to lose weight, you have to make serious changes in lifestyle before you can expect to shed those unwanted pounds. One of the best ways to by using a lifestyle journal. Whether you are overweight or not, your lifestyle journal can be a big help in controlling weight so it doesn't get out of hand.

Weight loss isn't just about losing weight. There are several factors that contribute to weight gain. Not all of the reasons are due to eating too much. A lifestyle journal pinpoints the source of the weight problem. It's your personal guide to taking the steps needed to shed unwanted pounds.

Weight gain is due to many factors:

* Improper and unhealthy diet

* Lack of exercise Environmental pollutants

* Bad habits

* Stress

* Over the counter and prescription medications

Any of these can affect weight. But a lifestyle journal will point out the one or two causes so more attention can be placed on them to successfully restore normal weight. Your journal can tell you that counting calories may be unnecessary, if your weight problem is largely due to your inability to get enough sleep.

What you eat must be added to your journal. That includes those in-between snacks. This is a critical step and needs to be done before you embark on any plan to lose weight. If burgers, pizza, fries and cola is what contributes to your waistline, you can then write into the journal the healthier food to replace them. The next time you visit the supermarket for sugar loaded breakfast cereal, your journal will tell you to replace it with oat or wheat bran.

For many people weight loss equates to calories and that is the first thing they focus on when trying to lose weight. Obviously fast food is loaded with calories, but many people have discovered that they can eat the same amount of food they did before their diet and still lost weight because what they ate consisted of fresh fruit and lots of vegetables.

Your journal is a blueprint for changing your faulty lifestyle just as much as it changes what you eat. As a lifestyle journal it must include your physical activity level. Note that physical activity of any kind is beneficial. There are people in perfect physical shape that have never lifted a dumbbell.

It's not likely you'll be able to sell your home if you live next to a mega farming operation that sprays pesticides on its fields regularly, but you can set down goals to minimize the effects of those toxic chemicals in your home. You can install a filtration system and filters to clean out the fluoride and drug residues in your drinking water. The pollutants you ingest or breathe can make you fat.

Your habits are critical to your health and well being, so your journal should list the need to stop smoking with its toxic chemicals, get enough sleep and learn to relax to relieve chronic stress. You should list all the drugs you are currently taking and research them for their potential to increase weight. If they are leading you to obesity, you can check with your doctor if you can be weaned off them or switched to safer drugs that do not promote weight gain.

A lifestyle journal helps isolate those major factors that lead to weight gain, not just diet alone. Unfortunately, that often means a complete change in the way they live and work.
