However, people with social anxiety have extreme fear of embarrassment in these situations.

They may experience anxiety symptoms and may even have an anxiety attack. Signs of anxiety can show such as; stammering, sweating, speaking fast, fidgeting and avoiding eye contact. In most cases, adult social anxiety develops from negative childhood occurrences. Seemingly harmless to people who don't suffer this disorder, for sufferers it can have huge negative effct on their lives.

Many feel limited with both happiness and opportunities. Negative behaviors such as self-denigration, excessive worrying, hesitation and lack of confidence, lead to un-fulfillment and underachievement. It's quite common for children to fall short at school and to maintain low expectations as they grow up. Growing up into adults they might let opportunities slip by.

Diagnosed cases of social anxiety disorder are either treated with medication or therapy, or a combination of both. Other methods for coping with panic attacks and anxiety include lifestyle changes and self help techniques. Constant thoughts of worry and too much self-conscious thinking can spark anxiety symptoms. In social experiences a sufferer may have irrational thoughts such as being afraid of being watched by everyone, even if it's not the case. They are likely to feel cornered and a need to escape.

Having a self-centered perspective only intensifies the experience in a domino effect. Obsessive negative thoughts can be reconditioned or reduced over time, which can help relieve social anxiety dramatically. Using visualization techniques and positive statements can help do this. You can build self confidence and assertiveness by going out and doing things that may put you at a little unease.

Develop your confidence by reading lots of self help and motivational books. Being confident just takes practice that even the shyest person can learn. You can also learn to control your emotions by putting your attention on others. Be rational and realize that when you look around that no-one is watching you. Push yourself to speak to your colleagues more and make yourself more heard at work. Try taking up a new hobby, go to the gym or do volunteer work.

Use distraction methods if you find it difficult to let go of worrying thoughts. Practice breathing exercises daily to give yourself a break from stress and tension. When you feel anxious in any particular situation, begin to breathe deeply and count to ten. Reducing anxiety and controlling panic attacks through breathing can be surprisingly effective.

A relatively unheard self help technique, EFT has shown potential in controlling panic attacks. This simple technique works by unblocking energy flow in the body and implementing positive thoughts into the mind. Unlike acupuncture, EFT uses a tapping technique to stimulate the body's meridian points. By making the effort and taking action to overcome your fears day by day, anyone can overcome social phobia.
