Have you ever noticed that the more you focus on yourself and your own problems, the worse you feel? And believe me it happens to the best of us. You're rolling along; doing great, then all of a sudden one little thing goes wrong.

You spend hours running through it in your head, and next thing you know, you are falling into the pits of despair. Every decision you've made was the wrong one, and you might as well just give up on whatever it was you were planning because there's no way it's going to work out.

So how do you turn that nonsense off? Eventually you will come to your senses and shake it off. Eventually you will remember you aren't the world's biggest loser, and you've got stuff to get done.

But what's the best way to turn "eventually" into now?

Contribute.

That's right. You need to push your petty problems to the back of your mind, and focus on someone else for awhile.

And if you want an instant high, immediate drive and energy in your life, and the feeling that you are someone who is really more powerful than even you imagined, then to really get off the bottom rung of the ladder fast, you need to volunteer.

I'm not just talking about sending some money over the wire. I mean getting up, getting out, and putting yourself to good use. Helping others.

So where does one go to do this? Easy. Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude's Foundation, Hillsides Home for Children, Women's Cancer Research Fund, Much Love Animal Rescue, Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), "We Are Family" Disaster Relief Fund, Children of the Night, Tom's Shoes, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, Musicians Assistance Program (MAP), and tons more.

Find something that's close to your own interest and passions. Give a day, an hour. You'll be amazed at how great you immediately feel and how much of an impact your small contribution has on others and on yourself!

There are a million and five ways to give back. You can serve soup at the local homeless shelter, give your old stuff to Goodwill, or better yet, once you've had a little in-person volunteer work, head on over to www.kiva.org. You can donate some of the cash you've earned to amazing entrepreneurs in third world countries to help improve their situation. And once they pay you back, which they will, you can donate that same money to another Kiva.org business venture and keep it going on and on, helping even more people.

Seriously, you won't believe how amazing it feels to take the focus off of yourself and give your attention to someone less fortunate.

When you assist another person by providing food, clothing, time, or money, you give them much needed support. You give them a sense of hope. You offer them a chance to feel like a whole human being. You allow them to regain their dignity and humanity. And still, with all of those great, charitable gestures, you can't help but elevate and feel better about yourself.

Volunteerism is a crucial part of my CORE program to help you successfully reach your goals.

The mission here is to get out of your own needs, put your ego aside, and really dig in and really help others. The objective is to engrain yourself into the society in which you live and are a part of, and selflessly make an impact on others to better their own lives. Give them hope, a sense of self, a purpose and belonging. A reason to enjoy and appreciate their life in a pay it forward attitude.

When you offer your services to another person, allowing them to feel like a part of society, you give them the spirit, drive, and energy to participate and offer their own services to the community and world in which they live.

The funny thing is, you won't ever truly know if they got the better deal or if you did. Because both you and the ones you help are going to feel like a very big part of the world you live in.
