Contemporary Versus Traditional Bathrooms

By:

For many years it's been one of the most neglected rooms in the house. Even people who fastidiously devoted themselves to improving the aesthetic design of every other room in their home, would leave the bathroom until last and why not? After all, if any room should be a place for function over looks, then this is it. However, attitudes are changing and people are looking at new designs for what used to be the smallest room in the house. The question is: should you go for contemporary or traditional bathrooms.

The contemporary style is very popular. It is possible these days to incorporate all the latest mod-cons in this room and by all, I mean just that - all!

Among the more fantastical gadgets you can have remote control showers that can be operated from outside the room, water proofed plasma screens fitted into the wall of a bath or even music piped in through hidden speakers. Yes - the techno home of the future is a wonderful place indeed.

On top of that you could have a fully installed wetroom. This has advantages from the aesthetic and functional point of view. It allows you to create a fully waterproofed space that is both attractive and safe.

However, increasingly over the past year we've seen a reversion to traditional bathrooms. It's out with the new and in with the old as people look for something that harkens back to a more bygone age. Some people might say it's got something to do with the troubled economic age we live in. People nostalgically look back to a day when life seemed so much simpler, and as such classical style feels more comfortable.

The hallmarks of traditional bathrooms are good low key and solid fixtures. Solid porcelain baths that look sturdy and reliable. Simple basic colours - whites and creams. The emphasis is very much on natural stones throughout the room. It looks as if there has been only the most minimalist effort at design, but that is the point. The idea is to produce the image of effortless style and class.

Interior designs very much follow the pattern of the age. Who's to say that in a couple of year's time we might be following another latest trend. However, fashion is temporary, class is permanent. Traditional bathrooms never go completely out of style. Yes they may be all the rage right now, but in times to come when designers are harping on about the latest gimmick a good classic design will still look fantastic.
