A low-backed couch, an ottoman and skillfully placed scatter cushions would be very elegant. Place a couple of tall ferns in interesting pots beside the wall units.

If you would like to indulge in the more dramatic, consider a strong play of colours for your contemporary living room furniture. Consider a blue and white contrast combination. Begin with heavy blue drapes on either side of your windows with a white billowy fabric in the center. Keep your furnishings to the same colour scheme, from the upholstery on two square cut armchairs to your cushions and the carpet, but do not let it become monotonous. Do away with the traditional sofa. Add accessories accentuating the colour combination by way of candle arrangements on occasional tables and some tastefully selected pottery.

Add a few live splashes of green by way of foliage suspended in macram pot hangers and in large square standing pots. Place a tiered alloy coffee table with a frosted glass top on an Aztec design rug. Bracket mounted units in glass and black wrought iron in an appealing overlapping arrangement would house your music system, books and knickknacks while creating a niche for your wall-mounted flat screen television. A slim length of black marble beneath the mounted arrangement could be a counter for well spaced out potted cacti, magazines and a favorite vase. You could similarly experiment in a black and silver combination in contemporary living room furniture, blending and contrasting metal, glass, leather and wood in endless creativity.
