Contemplative Praying Magic Of Christian

By:

Christian contemplative prayer, used to be a practice only found in mysticism, has become one of the most popular practice of contemporary Christianity. It is different from verbal prayer, which pray by speaking out words to God praising, worshipping, asking, thanking. Contemplative prayer is used to understand and enjoy our relationship with God.

Some believe that contemplative prayer is completely different from meditation. But in practice, they blend with each other and overlap with each other a lot. Some Christians are taught to start 'waiting upon the Lord' by meditating on bible verses and then as he/she continues, he/she will reach a state where he/she ceases to think or ponder and just receive.

Natural contemplation or acquired contemplation is a kind practiced by many. The person would stay quiet and focus his thought on the Lord. Sometimes he could express a few simple words to assist himself in such prayer. This kind of contemplation is also called the prayer of heart or simplicity.

Contrary to the natural contemplation is the supernatural contemplation. It is known as a prayer motivated by the manifested presence of God. The person experiences supernatural union with God. It is also called the passive contemplation.

Contemplation is preserved as a way to achieve mystical union with God. Saint Teresa of Avila described four stages of such journey. Initially, there is the incomplete union, the pray of quiet or the natural contemplation. Where the person had to put effort to quiet his own mind and focus on God, because the presence of God is not manifested in a powerful way which prevent him from being distracted. As the person progress in his relationship with God, and by the grace of God, the action of God increases its strength and makes such prayer more effortless. And at higher stages, the person can experience an ecstatic union with God.

In modern days, as the rises of houses of prayer around the world, this kind of soaking prayer becomes more common. Musicians and singers are producing music specifically for the purpose of soaking. I believe this is a good sign because more people will be able to experience tangible intimacy with God.
