Contact Lenses For Dry Eyes

By:

Often, it is true that contact lenses are problematic for people suffering from dry eyes. In normal cases, a thin layer automatically forms under the eye lens. This thin layer helps in the formation of tears. If the eye is incapable of forming the thin layer of tear, then there is no production of tears, this situation is known as dry eyes.

Some people have a perception that the problem of dry eyes is a problem caused due to the use of contact lenses. Many contact lens users have limited the use of lenses and some have even stopped using them fearing their unproved ill effects.

The question is whether contact lenses used as an alternative for glasses cause the problem of dry eyes? Many experts and eye researchers have invested their hard work in finding the answer for this question and the real fact is that the lenses have nothing to do with dry eyes and the problems related to it.

The findings have proved that in some cases, people simply have the problem of producing less tears as compared to normal quantity. This is primarily due to the lack of the chemical composition that is required to produce the adequate amount of tears. This inability to produce sufficient tears increases with the growing age.

Another cause for dry eyes is the increasing rate of pollution in the environment. Working in an overly heated or cool atmosphere is to the eyes. In addition, excessive exposure to the smoky environment is another cause along with the dust present in the atmosphere. Dry eyes are common among the people who work on the computer for long. A regular computer users tend to blink his/her eyes less during the working hours and thus, there is a problem of dry eyes, as blinking of the eyes is extremely necessary for the production of tears, as it helps regular wetting of the eyes.

Some of the cheap contact lenses may contribute to the occurrence of dry eyes syndrome. This is because most of the lenses are produced using water and polymers, some of the lenses include large quantity of water that goes up to 70% in some cases. This quantity of moisture is the reason for the uncomfortable feeling that one experience while wearing a contact lens.

Moreover, the contact lens sucks up the water from the tears for the lubrication purpose and this leaves you with dry eyes. However, there are some special contact lenses popular as RGP lenses, which are specially designed for the people suffering from dry eyes aliment.

These are Rigid Gas Permeable and these contact lenses do not contain water. As a result, there are no chances of water evaporation. Makers of these lenses manufacture from less polymeric items.
