Consumers Consider Prepaid Cell Service Options

By:

As budgets tighten around the country so do the budgets of the average consumer too who is looking to cut the edges wherever possible. This tightening continues into the cell phone sector as well where consumers are looking at various options and carefully scrutinizing them. The New Millennium Research Council claims that a full quarter of American consumers who possess a cell phone contract are scrambling for different alternatives including the possible change over to a no contract service and/or a prepaid cell service.

Consumers are not only considering switching to a no contract service, but they are also really analyzing whether they need extras such as e-mail, texting or Internet access. Some new carriers are offering to include all these so-called extras as part of a standard plan.

When choosing a prepaid cell service, research appears to point to three important factors - the network, pricing and flexibility.

The major and established carriers, such as Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile are the conventional leaders in the business. While other players do exist, they are usually categorised as mobile virtual network operators, like Virgin Mobile. The MVNOs basically act as intermediaries or agents, buying access to the networks. There are plenty of other hybrid options emerging as well, such as global mobile services via advanced partner of communication, a major part of the new Advanced Wireless Series revolution.

Cost is becoming an increasing factor in the analysis. As some of the marquee players continue to maintain high costs their ratings are dropping in the eyes of the consumer. The man or woman in the street is looking for the very best value in prepaid cell service.

It is important to analyze your past use and project your potential use for the first couple of months when you are considering a switch to prepaid cell service. You can certainly choose the most cost-effective option but be careful, as many of the carriers have traditionally produced billing statements that are difficult to analyze.

Flexibility is cited as an important consideration by consumers researching prepaid cell service. Traditionally, the major carriers have shown the least flexibility and this has been a constant accusation shot at the industry for many years now.

As competition becomes fiercer, however, all carriers are starting to take notice. With the advent of the all-inclusive "everything" options from emerging service providers, without the need for credit checks or contract signatures, it looks like the consumer's wishes will be granted. Companies take note that the consumer demands flexibility but also wants access to the latest cutting edge in innovation and technology.
