Constructing A Wine Cellar Rack

By:

If you don't have spare space to build wine cellar in, buying or building your own wine cellar rack can be a satisfying solution. Finding the space in your apartment or house for a wine racks should not be too difficult. They can be built in any form and size you want, so you can fit a wine rack on any wall in your kitchen or any other room you prefer.

Wine racks come in sizes which hold three wine bottles to several dozen or more. Wine racks are made of many different materials and finishes: iron, wood, even plastic. Standard single or column racks are popular for people who like to have just a few bottles of wine available for any occasion.

First step in building your own wine rack is to determine the dimensions of the wall or closet in which you will fit the wine rack. Consider if you want to stock your wine all the way to the ceiling, or would you prefer a shorter wine rack.
Always design your wine rack using diagonal, 45 degree pattern which is sturdier and more appealing that plane horizontal pattern.

For the primary construction it's best to use sturdier wood (2" x 4") so that the wine rack can support the weight of the wine. Don't forget, the larger the wine rack is and the more wine bottles it can hold, the bigger the weight is also! Spacings between wine bottles can be 1 to 2 inches to conserve space, but make sure you put struts in place over the whole length of the rack every 24 inches.

The best way to construct a wine rack is to make separate spacers for each wine bottle. This will ensure you bottles are protected from damage. To keep the bottles bouncing into one another, you can use wooden blocks placed on the tiers.

Against the edges of each corner in the framework, install a 1" x 1" inch wooden shafts which will prevent your wine bottles to jostle around and add another level of support for the whole wine rack.
