Consistent Internet Branding Starts With Domain Names

By:

Among the lesser informed SEO companies, there are many myths about how to accomplish good SEO and how to avoid bad SEO. Some of these are mistaken ideas based on otherwise good evidence that are being taken to mistaken conclusions. Others are completely erroneous. You need to know that the SEO firm that you're hiring can tell the difference.

Some people have said that having multiple domain names is a good idea to take over a search engine results page. While it looks good in theory, it doesn't work out well, especially for consistent Internet branding.

Consistent Internet branding is a must to maintain a good online reputation. If your branding is inconsistent, your viewers may question whether you are the genuine article. In order to make multiple domains work, you have to be able to throw this rule to the wind.

The way the search engines handle this situation is that if they see sites on different domains that are identical, or similar enough to be called identical, they will flag some of them as mirror sites, and they suffer a loss in the search engine rankings. This is something that you don't want, obviously.

In order to maintain the search engine rankings on multiple domains, you have to sacrifice your consistent Internet branding. Of course, this is something you don't want to do.

Another problem with making variations in your Internet branding so you can have multiple domains is that it is too labor extensive. In order to get good search engine ranking, each domain will have to have good in-site SEO, and have to build exterior links on their own. While it is possible to get decent rankings this way, you can't get good rankings doing it.

It's also more expensive to have multiple domains. While to some companies it may not seem like much to pay $300 a year per domain, it can add up with multiple domains. If you're trying to take over an entire search engine page, that means you'll be spending right around $4500 up to $6000 per year just on having a website. The cost doesn't justify the potential profit.

A better alternative is to get subdomains on your website. Subdomains, if handled correctly, will rank just as well as main domains. They're not as expensive as a primary domain, and you can keep your Internet branding consistent. It takes a knowledgeable SEO firm to handle the technical points of all of this.

Outsourcing an SEO firm is the best option for any company. Having an in-house SEO specialist is either too expensive, or they have to juggle work in other departments. You can either spend more money for what you get, or you can expect that they can't pay the needed attention to two different departments. Either way, it's not in your best interest.

On the other hand, outsourcing an SEO firm will provide qualified SEO specialists for a lesser cost than in-house SEO.
